[FRAMED]: David Sheldon, Compositor, MTL
[FRAMED] exists to shine light on Framestore’s most fascinating cast of characters: its people. Presented with a probing list of questions and a demandingly short deadline, this feature puts the hopes, dreams, and desktops of our MVPs on the digital wall, for all to see. Welcome to [FRAMED].
What are you guilty of?
I once pretended to not be myself on the phone with my boss — David can’t come to the phone right now.
What was your last brush with danger?
I did some DIY with my brother last week. We have very different approaches to health and safety.
Your last brush with greatness?
My nieces and nephew leave me in awe every time I see them.
Your worst character fault?
Overthinking and internalising. And then overthinking and internalising that overthinking and internalising.
If you had taken a different path, what would you be doing now?
I was going to study to be an Architect but couldn’t hack the maths.
You’re on the run from the law, where are you headed?
To bed because that sounds stressful, I do my best thinking when I’m asleep.
Who’s your partner-in-crime?
I work alone.
What’s your favourite movie/TV show and why?
Friends — always been there for me.
Your greatest achievement?
Getting a job at Framestore and still being here five years later. Oh, hi imposter syndrome…
Most valuable skill?
Active listening.
Name your pet peeve?
Slow walkers — most of whom, incidentally, also have zero spatial/peripheral awareness. Admittedly I have long legs and move at ‘gay-pace’.
The DREAM project would entail:
Working on a Bond film.
Your career highlight to date:
No Time To Die. Dream project done! I can retire now.
This week I learnt that:
There’s a difference between being passionately committed to something and feeling obligated to outperform everyone else.
What’s your current view?
Right now, I am one of the few in the Montreal office…it’s quite empty.
Give us a desk tour!
If it’s not essential, it’s not on my desk. Apart from my workstation and wacom tablet it’s just my notebook, coffee and essential snacks.
What do you need to work, on the daily?
My notebooks. Essential for notes, doodles, journaling, planning, lists etc.
Framestore is, to you, in three words:
Empowering, inclusive, visionary.
Best thing about your work environment?
The people.
Framestore is great at:
Looking after its people. Sounds cliche but it is true, I’ve tested it.
Favourite artform?
Photography. Especially landscape photography.
Favourite image?
Anything by Rachael Talibart — stunning seascape photography.
Fictional character you’d like to hang with?
Winnie the Pooh.
Happiness looks like:
I love the quote/equation “happiness = reality — expectations”
If not here, then where?
Greece please!
What do you think of too often?
Dark chocolate and whisky.
And not enough?
Dark chocolate and whisky.
Couldn’t live without:
Dark chocolate and whisky.
If you ruled the world:
Education would be more accessible, diverse and inclusive.
David Sheldon, you’ve been [FRAMED].
