[FRAMED]: Gigi Ng, VFX Supervisor/Senior Flame Artist, NY

[FRAMED] exists to shine light on Framestore’s most fascinating cast of characters: its people. Presented with a probing list of questions and a demandingly short deadline, this feature puts the hopes, dreams, and desktops of our MVPs on the digital wall, for all to see. Welcome to [FRAMED].

What are you guilty of?

Eating something sweet almost daily.

What was your last brush with danger?

Driving 10,000 feet up Haleakalā (volcano in Maui) in the dark, along switchbacks without guardrails, to watch the sunrise. And I’m afraid of heights.

Your worst character fault?

If you had taken a different path, what would you be doing now?

Maybe owning a bakery. I have a side baking business that I started with one of my best friends (www.cakewalknyc.com; IG: cakewalknyc). Or being a psychologist (I have a degree in psychology).

You’re on the run from the law, where are you headed?

Who’s your partner-in-crime?

There are too many people to name just one (plus, if I did, I think I’d get into trouble).

Your greatest achievement?

Buying a condo in Brooklyn by myself and paying off my student loans.

Most valuable skill?

I have a pretty great memory.

Go on, say something bragging.

I’m an exceptional gift giver.

Name your vice/pet peeve?

Grammatical errors (your/you’re, it’s/its, they’re/there/their, using subjective instead of objective pronouns after prepositions), but especially when someone spells my name with two capital Gs and two lower case Is. Also certain loud noises, like people typing loudly on a keyboard, or my neighbor’s kid’s piano playing, which, during this pandemic, is driving me absolutely bonkers.

The DREAM project would entail?

The Rock. I would love to meet Dwayne Johnson, and I’ve been trying to make this happen for a long time by pitching it to various clients. Mr. Johnson, if for some reason you’re reading this, please consider working with me.

Your career highlight to date?

It hasn’t happened yet (see above).

What’s your current view?

My wall of art and my new bookshelf with books, plants, knickknacks.

Give us a desk tour.

Computer monitor, keyboard, tablet, glasses and eyeglass cleaner, a couple of little toy figurines, notebook, chair with seat cushion, something sweet (currently a bar of chocolate).

What do you need to work, on the daily?

Exercise, meditation, coffee.

Best thing about your work environment?

Right now, not commuting!

Framestore is great at:

Bringing together amazing people.

Favourite artform?

If not here, then where?

A warm beach.

What do you think of too often?

And not enough?

Heavy! Couldn’t live without?

Doughnuts, hot dogs, mac & cheese (my trifecta of favorite “bad foods”).

If you ruled the world?

Universal healthcare.

How are you staying inspired by working remotely?

I’ve been meditating a lot, exercising, doing yoga, reading, listening to podcasts, baking.

How are you spending your weekends?

When it was warm out, I was going on bike rides and walks with friends and hanging out outside. Now that it’s colder, watching more television and doing home improvement projects.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned about yourself during quarantine?

That I’m stronger than I think.

Gigi Ng, you’ve been [FRAMED].
