[FRAMED] exists to shine light on Framestore’s most fascinating cast of characters: its people. Presented with a probing list of questions and a demandingly short deadline, this feature puts the hopes, dreams, and desktops of our MVPs on the digital wall, for all to see. Welcome to [FRAMED].

What are you guilty of?

I keep myself busy all the time and feel guilty when I do nothing. I learn to rest now. It’s challenging, as you can imagine.

What was your last brush with danger?

It was 7 years ago in Vietnam when I learned how to drive a motorbike by myself. I got into an accident in Malaysia the same year.

Your last brush with greatness?

I feel proud of establishing a connection with the MUM team without meeting them in person (yet!). Hey Abhi and Jaya!

Your worst character fault?

Being a control freak…sometimes.

Your most shining quality?

Curiosity which pushes me to take on any challenge.

You’re on the run from the law, where are you headed?

I will be trivial and choose a warm and beautiful place somewhere in South-East Asia.

Who’s your partner-in-crime?

My husband!

What’s your favourite movie/TV show and why?

I love US adaption of The Office. It’s the best source of gifs that can brighten up our days at work.

Your greatest achievement?

To be able to develop good relationships in intercultural teams. I mastered that by working with teams in Turkey, France, Spain, Ukraine, Vietnam and doing it now remotely with India, from Canada.

Most valuable skill?

Communication.

Go on, say something bragging:

I was able to influence and positively change the lifestyle of the very stubborn people in my environment just by being myself and setting an example. I am talking about people quitting bad habits, starting to eat well, exercising and getting healthier physically and mentally.

Name your vice/pet peeve?

I get frustrated when people do not follow simple communication codes such as being polite or respecting my time/space.

The DREAM project would entail:

To be a part of an international team with the ability to learn and share my knowledge. Oh, but that’s what I am already doing!

Your career highlight to date:

Being able to live and work on 4 continents, have 9 different jobs in 6 different industries.

This week I learnt that:

Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, was the first one to come up with the idea that animals could potentially have rights.

What’s your current view?

This time of year, I get treated to some colour-therapy in front of my home office window — a golden maple tree with the blue sky as a contrast (see the picture below). It reminds me of my Ukrainian roots.

Give us a desk tour!

Some screens, never too many screens, productivity tools, a bookshelf with plants, and an autumn bouquet.

What do you need to work on the daily?

Interesting activities!

Framestore is, to you, in three words:

Fun, professional, community.

Best thing about your work environment?

People sharing the same vibe and passion.

Framestore is great at:

Making dreams come true!

Favourite artform?

I am a multi-disciplinary fan so pictures accompanied with music. Preferably, both classic ones.

Favourite image?

I am currently enjoying the aftertaste from visiting the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. His Sunflowers and Almond blossoms are giving me so much joy! Check them out:

Fictional character you’d like to hang with?

I work in VFX so I feel like there’s always a different character that keeps me company. Right now, I can think of the cute pig from the Slumberland film we worked on last year. He seemed to have so much fun travelling different worlds and being happy.

Happiness looks like:

A mix of planned and unplanned, cultural and adventurous, delicious and mind twisting activities!

If not here, then where?

I haven’t been to South America and Oceania yet, so definitely somewhere there.

What do you think of too often?

How I can upgrade my current life.

And not enough?

Global things like my future, politics, social trends, and the economy.

Couldn’t live without:

Delicious, healthy and well-elaborated meals shared with nice people.

If you ruled the world:

I would delegate it to a more global-thinking person and would be happy to guide operations and teams.

Kate Holovchenko, you’ve been [FRAMED].
